Passing through Kemp Town on the bus (hence this blurry photo) I spotted this Bra Bank - pretty eh? It reminded me I'd been meaning to write a few lines about how you can recycle your old bras for charity.
This scheme is local to Brighton & Hove, but there are a few national appeals going. Breast Talk's Bra Appeal distributes old bras to charities throughout the UK and overseas (maybe to a homeless woman in the UK or living in a country where the price of a new bra is beyond their means), using them to generate cash for breast cancer research.
In the US there's Support1000 and in New Zealand they're looking for Breast Mates. Australia's Project Uplift is currently only after nursing bras, but there's another Aussie scheme which collects bras to give to women in Zimbabwe.
An honourable mention must go to Emily Duffy's Bra Ball, constructed from 18,085 bras, standing 5 feet tall and weighing more than 1,800 pounds!
